For many years my husband and I were avid golfers. Two of our friends were our partners. There was no weekend,
holiday, or vacation that did not find us on some beautiful, well tended course, enjoying the company of our friends, a great sport, and the love for nature.
The only interruption came when my friend gave birth to an adorable little girl, I became an instant aunt, baby sitter and all the delightful activities that accompany the birth of a baby.
My friends have passed away, The litlle baby girl now is a grandmother but our close ties are still intact. We speak to one-another weekly, and if I am lucky, she invites me for a visit. She lives in Jericho (Long Island). My nephew who works in Nassau Community College drives me out there. She pickes me up at the college and takes me to her home for a lot of talking about the past, admiring her beautiful garden. She is an expert.
It was raining cats and dogs, but we did hardly notice. Two very important features added to the enjoyment of our visit. The new, tiny, enchanting grand daugher that
you would like to snatch away, and a little black dog whose breed I cannot describe. All I could tell you is that I have never felt loved with such devotion and passion , I was quite overwhelmed. He snuggled and tried to kiss
me. He did not want to move from my side. I definitely felt strengthened by his returning my affection with such force. I now understand that bringing animals,
especially dogs, to the elderly, to make them feel loved, is like a tonic.
So you see, the rain did not bother me at all. I spent a wonderful, loving afternoon.
( I wonder what all you many cat lovers will have to say to me)
