  THE BIRDS

I must confess, it seems to me,
I was absent in class
When they taught ornithology.

I have met the long-legged Stork.
As I was told,
She dropped me off,
When I was one day old.

I met a fresh Blue Jay, one day,
Who ogled my sandwich,
And then snatched it away.

I never saw a Bald Eagle stretch his wings,
I never heard the Lark warbling
In the early mornings of spring.

I can recognize Sea Gulls,
They followed my ship
On my very first oceanic trip.

I’ve seen Pigeons, Sparrows and Robins galore,
However there are so many varieties more,
Whose beautiful features I cannot tell.
I think you better ask Isabel!
