My heart was heavy, I wanted to cry.
I had to leave my homeland.
It was my final goodbye.
I stood at the edge of the Vienna Wood,
I saw Vienna’s panorama as best as I could.
St. Stephens Cathedral, the Danube canal flowing by,
And the giant Ferris Wheel in the amusement park.
As a child to play there, had been a lark.
I had always loved this beautiful city,
the center of music and art.
I could not bear the thought,
That forever I had to part.
It nearly broke my heart.
I took one look, for the very last time.
I can never forget a view so sublime.
