The New York premiere of the Holocaust Requiem was given in St. John the Divine by the Brooklyn Philharmonic, conducted by Lukas Foss, with Ron Silver as Narrator, Howard Nevison of Temple Emmanuel as the Cantor, the Dessoff Choir, and the Gregg Smith Singers. The oratorio was subsequently nominated for the Pulitzer prize following this performance.This was the main feature of the first New York Interfaith Concert of Remembrance.
Richard Haas, the distinguished painter famous for his
large-scale trompe d’oeuil masterpieces, was present
and drew this impression during the actual performance.
