In 1988 the Holocaust Requiem was performed at the Tillis Center of Long
Island University (C.W. Post campus) by the Brooklyn Philharmonic under
Lukas Foss.
Leading Christian Churches and Jewish Temples sponsored this ecumenical
event on the fiftieth anniversary of “Krystalnacht”, the “Night
of Broken Glass”, when anti-semitic riots in Germany attacked hundreds
of synagogues, Jewish stores and homes.The performance was preceded by
a procession of children holding lighted candles into the darkened auditorium,
in memory of the one and a half million murdered children whom this Requiem
