Ursula Vaughan Williams, the widow of Ralph Vaughan Williams, has established
her own reputation as a poet and writer, especially in collaboration with
composers. For Ronald Senator (on the right) she wrote the text of the
chamber opera “Insect Play”, a recreation of the play by Karel
Capek; “Greenwood and Paradise” and “Seasons and Loves”,
translations of Mediaeval French lyrics, set by Senator for two voices
with the English text overlapping the original French; and the Cantata
“Toussaint” for bass baritone and orchestra (dedicated to
Willard White).
